During the COVID-19 epidemic crisis, the Social Security face-to-face customer information service has been limited to essential contacts and services and subject to prior appointment. In the relationship with Social Security, we advise our customers to privilege the following non-face-to-face channels: the Social Security Line and the Social Security Online Service (Segurança Social Direta).
 
The Social Security Line offers a personalised service, provided by Social Security employees, and an automated answering service.

Personalised Service timetable: working days from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
 
Automated Answering Service timetable: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
 
Call cost: the cost of calling both numbers – 210 545 400 or 300 502 502 – from a mobile or fixed network, will be according to the operator and the respective contracted tariff.

1. Personalised service

 
When calling to this service, please choose the subject of your contact so that a Social Security employee may answer to your information request.
 
Which is the phone key to press for general information or for specific information about your case:
 
To ask for information about your case, you will need to indicate your Social Security Identification Number (NISS) and the Security Code for Access to the Social Security Line (see how to proceed in paragraph 2).

  • If you press 1, you can get information about COVID-19 — Exceptional measures
    •  Employer - press 1
    • Citizen - press 2
  • If you press 2, you can get information about Allowances and Benefits:
    • Allowance payments - press 1
    • Other information on allowances - press 2
  •  If you press 3, you can get information on matters concerning Workers, Employers, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and the Public Capitalisation Scheme.
  •  If you press 4, you can get information on matters concerning Pensions and Supplements.


2. Security Code for Access to the Social Security Line
 
To get the Security Code for Access to the Social Security Line, which will be your authentication code, you must access the Social Security Online Service and take the following steps:

1. Select the Perfil (Profile) area;

2. Choose the option Contactos com a Segurança Social (Social Security Contacts);

3. Then, click on Código de acesso para atendimento telefónico (Access code to the Social Security Line).

 
3. General information
 
The Social Security Line operates at national level and provides general information, mainly on matters concerning Benefits and Allowances, Workers, Employers, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), the Public Capitalisation Scheme, the Management of Remunerations, Contributions, Pensions and Supplements and IT Support in the Social Security Online Service.
 
The Social Security Line may also be used to schedule an appointment at the Social Security customer information services, on a previously defined day and time. 


 
4. Information about a specific case
 
The Social Security Line operates at national level and provides also information about a specific case, through the consultation of this information in the Social Security Information System.
 
To get information about your case through the Social Security Line, you must always submit your authentication credentials. The type of authentication may vary according to the information required. Employers must use strong authentication credentials, i.e., the authentication code obtained via the Social Security Online Service.
 
Citizens may use strong authentication credentials, i.e., the authentication code obtained via the Social Security Online Service, or their authentication may be done by answering the questions asked by the Social Security Line employee to confirm their personal data.
 
5. Data changes and communication of new data
 
Citizens or Employers can only change data or communicate new data through the Social Security Line if they have strong authentication credentials, i.e., the authentication code that is obtained via the Social Security Online Service. Please click on the Annex to find out what data may be changed and/or communicated through the Social Security Line.

 
6. Documents that may be requested
 
Citizens can only request the Social Security services to send them documents, through the Social Security Line, if they use strong authentication credentials, i.e., the authentication code obtained via the Social Security Online Service. Citizens may also make their authentication by answering the questions asked by the Social Security Line employee to confirm their personal data.

The requested documents are sent to the address registered in the Social Security Information System. Click on the Annex to find out what documents can be requested via the Social Security Line.
 
 
7. Automated answering service
 
To access the automated answering service, please call 210 545 400 or 300 502 502, choose the option Subsídios e Prestações Socials (Social allowances and benefits) and use your authentication credentials: your Social Security Identification Number (NISS) and the Security Code for Access to the Social Security Line.
 
To get the Security Code for Access to the Social Security Line, which will be your authentication code, you must access the Social Security Online Service, and take the following steps:

1. Select the Perfil (Profile) area;

2. Choose the option Contactos com a Segurança Social (Social Security Contacts);

3. Then, click on Código de acesso para atendimento telefónico (Access code to the Social Security Line).
