The attachment is a judicial seizure of assets carried out by the tax execution body.

When does the attachment take place? When does the attachment take place?

The attachment takes place thirty days after the notification, provided that the debtor did not:

  • voluntarily pay the debt;
  • submit an application for the debt payment in instalments;
  • submit a request for accord and satisfaction;
  • file a legal opposition.

  • Bank accounts;
  • Movable assets;
  • Immovable assets;
  • Claims;
  • Personal Income Tax (IRS - Imposto sobre o Rendimento de Pessoas Singulares)/VAT;
  • Income;
  • Rights;
  • Shares or minority shares in companies;
  • Salaries/pensions/social benefits.

You may:
  • Pay the debt in full, extinguishing the execution;
  • Request the replacement of that attachment by another of equal suitability, liquidity and enforceability; the executive procedure section will be responsible for the evaluation and decision on that possible replacement;
  • Submit a request for accord and satisfaction, an application for the debt payment in instalments or file a legal opposition, in a period of thirty (30) days after personal notification of the attachment.
