Main tasks
- To manage the Social Security schemes that, in accordance with the applicable law or regulation, are entrusted to the social security institutions of the Autonomous Region of the Azores;
- To study and propose measures aimed at the permanent adequacy of the Social Security schemes;
- To cooperate in the definition and adequacy of the Social Security financial policy;
- To participate in the preparation of the Social Security Global Plan;
- To prepare the Social Security budget of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, by assessing, integrating and making the individual budgets compatible with the global budget, and ensuring, coordinating and monitoring the respective implementation;
- To draw up the Social Security account of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, to be submitted to the competent bodies for approval;
- To cooperate in the definition of accounting procedures to be adopted in the Social Security system;
- To ensure the development of actions of a preventive, therapeutic and promotional nature, in an integrated perspective tending to be more individualised in order to achieve the social action objectives;
- To promote the mobilisation of the community’s own resources in the pursuit of the actions referred to in the previous paragraph;
- To cooperate in the study of policy and social intervention measures;
- To conclude agreements, contracts or cooperation protocols;
- To supervise social support services and equipment, including for-profit social support institutions;
- To ensure compliance with the rights and duties of beneficiaries and contributors of the Azores Social security system;
- To ensure technical advice to the courts, in accordance with the law, in what concerns matters of promotion and protection of children and young people at risk and civil protection procedures;
- To carry out sanctioning powers within the scope of illicit acts of mere social order concerning social support services and equipment, including for-profit social support institutions, beneficiaries and contributors, in accordance with the law;
- To collect, process and prepare statistical data of specific interest to social security activities;
- To cooperate in the verification, monitoring, evaluation and reporting, in the budgetary, economic and assets areas, of the activities carried out by the bodies and services belonging to the Azores Social Security system, within the scope of the internal control system of the State’s financial administration;
- To ensure the management and administration of assets and rights held by the Social Security Institute of the Azores, that constitute the Social Security assets of the Autonomous Region of the Azores;
- To promote assets studies and evaluations within the scope of the Social Security system of the Autonomous Region of the Azores;
- To optimise the management of the social security system’s financial resources of the Autonomous Region of the Azores;
- To receive the contributions paid by employers and employees, ensuring and controlling their collection, as well as the other financial resources included in the social security budget of the Autonomous Region of the Azores;
- To ensure the financial supply of bodies and services supported by the social security budget of the Autonomous Region of the Azores;
- To ensure the profitability of cash surpluses, namely through the use of instruments available on the market;
- To carry out the other tasks provided for by law.
