The Institute

The Social Security Institute of Madeira (ISSM, IP-RAM – Instituto de Segurança Social da Madeira, Instituto Público – Região Autónoma da Madeira), is a legal person governed by public law, integrated in the indirect administration of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM), with legal personality, administrative and financial autonomy and its own assets.

The ISSM, IP-RAM

- is the solidarity and social security public institute in the Autonomous region of Madeira, governed by a special scheme in accordance with the law;

- is governed by the provisions of the Regional Legislative Decree no. 29/2016/M of 15 July 2016 and by the applicable rules of the legal scheme of public institutes;

- carries out its activities under the authority and supervision of the Regional Secretariat for Social Inclusion and Citizenship;

- has its headquarters in Funchal and several local customer information services close to the citizen throughout the territory of the Autonomous Region of Madeira;

- has jurisdiction over the whole territory of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, being namely the competent institution for the coverage of Social Security beneficiaries and contributors residing in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, whether they are employers or similar entities, self-employed persons or contracting entities whose headquarters, effective management bodies, professional domicile or residence is located in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, even if they have establishments, workplaces or branches located outside the regional territory.
